The NYBBGB is renowned for nurturing the careers of top brass band musicians. Our Take a Seat scheme offers the opportunity to support seats within the Youth Band and directly impact the future of classical music and the rich tradition of brass bands in the UK.
Founded on a legacy of excellence, The NYBBGB boasts an illustrious alumni roster that includes Maurice Murphy, Ian Bousfield and David Childs among others, who have significantly influenced the world of brass music. Rising stars Philip Cobb, James Fountain and Isobel Daws are becoming established names as classical soloists. The Band continues to uphold this tradition by fostering young talent like Jordan Ashman, Lewis Barton and Phoebe Mallinson, who are already showing great potential.
As a registered charity, The NYBBGB relies heavily on the generosity of our supporters to maintain and enhance the opportunities we offer to talented young musicians. Take a Seat directly supports the young musicians of The NYBBGB by funding bursaries, tuition, guest conductors and soloists, new commissions and opportunities for artistic development.
Take a Seat allows individuals, families, charitable trusts and businesses to support seats in the Band at different levels. The generosity of donors will be recognised throughout the year in concert programmes and on our website. Donors will receive information about the young musicians’ experiences at The NYBBGB and will be invited to see them rehearse and perform.
Gift Levels
Take a Seat offers a range of gift levels to support seats across the Band, with each minimum level corresponding to a specific position as follows:
- Principal Cornet seat: £3,000
The Principal Cornet is a prestigious position, with the seat-holder leading the whole Youth Band. Sponsoring this seat represents a significant contribution to the band, reflecting the leadership and excellence of the position. - Assistant Principal Cornet & other principal seats: £2,000
The Assistant Principal Cornet, along with other key principal chairs such as Principal Soprano Cornet, Flugelhorn, Tenor Horn, Euphonium, Baritone, Tenor Trombone, Bass Trombone, Eb and Bb Bass and Percussion are critical to the sound of the Band, and are key aspirational positions for our young performers. - 1st Desk Players (all Instruments): £1,000
The 1st Desk Players in any section, from solo cornet to tutti solo and 1st horns, to euphoniums and basses, provide vital strength and musicality to the band. - 2nd and 3rd Desk Players (all Instruments): £500
The 2nd and 3rd Desks, including 2nd and 3rd cornets, 2nd horn and 2nd trombone and tutti players on soprano and flugel often offer an exciting opportunity to our newest and youngest musicians to contribute to the band’s sound.
