Recorded live at Taunton Brewhouse on 31 July 2026, the concert brought together 56 talented young brass and percussion musicians for the culmination of The NYBBGB Children’s Band’s summer residential course at Taunton School.
Led by Guest Conductor Katrina Marzella-Wheeler and joined by Guest Soloist and NYBBGB alumnus Angus Ritchie, the Band explored the theme ‘Disruption: The Sounds of Change’ – a celebration of music that challenges expectations, embraces new ideas and gives the next generation a voice.
The programme took audiences on a wide-ranging musical journey, from the energy of Lucy Pankhurst’s March: IRL and the adventure of Peter Graham’s The Journal of Phileas Fogg to Liz Lane’s The Awakening and Errollyn Wallen’s vibrant Gold Saturday.
Guest Soloist Angus Ritchie – winner of The NYBBGB’s 2025 Harry Mortimer Award – returned to perform alongside the Children’s Band, with solo features including Sigvart Dagsland’s Michelangelo and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Variations.
There was plenty of fun along the way too, including Revolting Children from Tim Minchin’s Matilda The Musical, as the young musicians showcased everything they had achieved during an intensive and inspiring week of music-making together.
The performance brought the Children’s Band’s 2026 summer course to a memorable close, earning an enthusiastic response from the audience at Taunton Brewhouse and a 4.5-star review from 4barsrest.
Now audiences everywhere can experience the concert in full. Join us on Friday 11 September at 7.30pm for the YouTube Premiere and enjoy an evening showcasing the talent, commitment and infectious enthusiasm of the next generation of brass and percussion musicians.
And if you can’t join us for the Premiere, the complete concert will remain free to watch at any time afterwards on The NYBBGB YouTube channel.
