The deadline for video submission is 1st October 2021. Videos should not exceed 10 minutes in duration. The videos can feature rehearsals, concerts or competition performances. Six candidates will be selected to proceed to Round 2. Rounds 2 and 3 will take place on the 29th January 2022 and involve rehearsing a full brass band made up of players from the NYBBGB.
Judges include Martyn Brabbins, Dr Robert Childs and Captain Samuel Hairsine RM. Candidates will be asked to prepare three well known brass band marches:
Candidates will be given 20 mins to rehearse one of the marches and will be told on the day which march they should conduct. Three candidates will be selected to proceed to the Final Round.
The Finalists will be judged by a panel including Martyn Brabbins, Dr Robert Childs and Captain Samuel Hairsine RN. Candidates will be will given 40 mins to rehearse one of the following well known brass band works:
Candidates will be told on the day which piece they will conduct. Candidates in Round 2 should prepare all six set-works. The three finalists’ set-works and running order is drawn by lot at the end of Round 2.
By entering the Competition you are giving your consent for your performance, should you reach the Final Round, to be filmed and streamed online. All rights will be owned by the NYBBGB in perpetuity.
First prize will be an invitation to work as Associate Conductor alongside maestro Martyn Brabbins and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain during their 2022 summer residential course at Taunton School between 30th July and 6th August 2022. The winner will also conduct a work at the NYBBGB’s 70th Anniversary concert on 6th August in London.
The winner will receive a fee of £500 to work alongside and be tutored by Martin Brabbins and the NYBBGB during their 2022 summer residential course and conduct a work in the concert.
