The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain (NYBBGB) is the UK’s leading brass band charity for children and young people. We exist to give the brightest young brass and percussion musicians the opportunity to develop their musicianship, play together and inspire others.
Our PhilosophyThe NYBBGB was established in 1952 and is a registered charity. We currently run two brass bands – the Children’s Band and the Youth Band. Entry is by audition. Our bands perform advanced music and receive the highest quality artistic direction and teaching. This develops our young members as musicians to grow the next generation of outstanding brass and percussion players, teachers and music leaders.
The NYBBGB is one of the top commissioners of new music for brass bands, and pieces we commissioned and premiered are now played across the world.
We aim to offer talented young brass band musicians an outstanding musical experience. We do this through:
We work with some of the best brass band tutors in the world, as well as other leading educationalists
Our inspirational courses support the development of new friendships with amongst young people with a shared love of music
We perform some of the traditional pieces whilst we also challenge and extend what we can play and so commission new pieces from leading composers
We aim to be a diverse and inclusive organisation. We keep costs for participation low and provide financial and pastoral support for those who need it
Founded by Dr Denis Wright, in 1952, we have a Board of Trustees chaired by John Gillam and a team of staff all of whom have a passion for brass.
